FRANCISTOWN: Tasc Football Club which has just gained promotion to the Premier League held an award winning ceremony at Adansonia hotel last Saturday.

In an interview with Gazette Sport, TASC public relations officer Rapula Gaotlhobogwe said that they decided to reward the players who were particularly outstanding in the previous season in order to motivate them.

The 10 contenders who qualified for the awards were best defender, player of the season, top goal scorer, most disciplined and the most improved.

The top goal scorer was given P1 500, best goalkeeper P1 000 and his runner-up P500. The best midfielder was given P1 000, younger player P500, and most improved P500.There was also the chairman’s award, which was given to striker Mchaoza Mosweu because he played well during the play-offs.

He said that the awards ceremony was initiated by the newly appointed 2010/2011 committee because they had realised the team has financial problems and no sponsor, so this ceremony on the other hand raised money from tickets sold. He revealed that because of the team’s brilliant performance last season some companies showed interest during the awards, but they have not yet agreed on anything concrete.

The awards ceremony was sponsored by Mike Beat Company to the tune of P10, 000 while Adonsonia hotel helped with the venue and reduced meal prices. Other companies like Tati Nickel Mine and Stanbic Bank also came to the team’s rescue.

A single ticket cost P160 and a double ticket P300. A total of 300 tickets were sold, according to Gaotlhobogwe.

Gaotlhobogwe said that the money raised from ticket sales will help the team to prepare for the next season which starts on August 14.
