Robert Mugabe’s government has declared the three Botswana wildlife officers who were charged with entering Zimbabwe illegally prohibited persons in that country.
The three officers from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks returned home after they appeared before a Magistrate in Zimbabwe.

They were found not guilty on two of the three charges they faced and released after paying a combined fine of about US$600.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of wildlife, environment and tourism, Archibald Ngakaagae said: “It must be noted that our Government vehicle and rifles are still in Zimbabwe. They are still confiscated because Zimbabwe has indicated that they want to appeal the case.”

He said they view this as an unfortunate event because the two countries’ Wildlife Officers must genuinely cooperate in the development of the envisaged Transfrontier Conservation Areas.

Ngakaagae added that the imposed movement restriction is not conducive to the spirit of Transfrontier Conservation.

l have been following the story of the botswana wildlife officers closely. lam a zimbabwean national based in south africa.well its really unfortunate for two neighbours to fight over what l call petty issues which can be solved amicably its high time mugabe and khama end this antagonism they have towards each other ,there is no way zimbabwe and botswana will live in isolation , botswana is hosting a lot of zimbabwean and for may years and many zim families are surviving from some peaceworks in botswana. botswana must also remember that at one point we hosted a lot of their students who were studying in zimbabwe ,now that the country is at its lowest they have taken a tougher stance on zimbabweans since the quarels of the wildlife officers began l understand there have been daily derpotations of zimabwe nationals ,please botswana think in an abstact manner and don"nt get emotional in making decisions .those are innocent people there is a proverb that when two two bulls fight its the grass that suffers most stop this behaviour you two countries many people have intemarriage and are bound and will never be seperated .war will not solve anything except losses of life . these two countries could be fostering ties on developments project ,research and promoting regional intergration. that is my appeal to the man at the helm of both countries.
